Women In Wellness: Vanessa Marc Of Vanessa Marc Spa On The Five Lifestyle Tweaks That Will Help Support People’s Journey Towards Better Wellbeing

…In the beginning, I encountered people who didn’t believe in my goals or questioned my ability to succeed. I learned that not everyone will understand your journey, but that shouldn’t stop you from pursuing your dreams…

Today, more than ever, wellness is at the forefront of societal discussions. From mental health to physical well-being, women are making significant strides in bringing about change, introducing innovative solutions, and setting new standards. Despite facing unique challenges, they break barriers, inspire communities, and are reshaping the very definition of health and wellness. In this series called Women in Wellness, we talk to women doctors, nurses, nutritionists, therapists, fitness trainers, researchers, health experts, coaches, and other wellness professionals to share their stories and insights. As a part of this series, we had the pleasure of interviewing Vanessa Marc.

Known for her soothing facials offered at her posh NYC spa, her nearly 10 years of experience in the luxury spa industry reflects her unique combination of technique, technology and nourishing treatments meant to cater to all skin types — which has made her the go-to skin-guru for the most high-profile clients and events for that red carpet-ready glow!

Thank you so much for joining us in this interview series! Our readers would love to “get to know you” better. Can you share your “backstory” with us?

Thank you so much for having me! I’m Vanessa Marc, a business owner, celebrity esthetician, and highly sought-after skincare expert. I’ve built one of the most acclaimed spas in New York City — Vanessa Marc Spa — where I manage a VIP clientele, including A-list stars like Zendaya, Jasmine Tookes, and Nicky Hilton, among many other tastemakers and influential figures. I’ve always believed in offering more than just a facial; I aim to deliver an unparalleled experience.

When I started my journey 7 years ago, I noticed an untapped market with a lack of representation. At that moment, I promised myself that I would become the role model I wished I had. My career began working with models during the Victoria’s Secret era, where I had the privilege of educating some of the world’s most recognizable faces on proper skincare practices. It was an incredible experience, and one that shaped my path. I come from humble beginnings, and even now, I make it a point to never take anything or anyone for granted. I am deeply grateful for the love, support, and community that has helped me achieve my dreams and build something truly special.

The blessing comes from manifesting a dream I once thought was out of reach. Working with A-list clients for events like the MET Gala, the Grammys, and award season is an honor I’ll cherish forever. Being able to play even a small role in helping someone feel confident on such monumental occasions is something I hold close to my heart.

But this dream didn’t come with shortcuts. I didn’t have famous parents or well-connected friends to open doors for me. Every opportunity was earned through passion, relentless hard work, and dedication. I graduated with honors from esthetic school, soaked up every bit of knowledge and hands-on experience I could, and kept pushing forward with the vision of one day building something of my own.

The curse — if I can call it that — lies in the unseen sacrifices. People often see the glamorous highlights: the red carpets, the flawless results, and the celebrated clients. What they don’t see are the long hours, the setbacks, the tears, and the sheer grit it took to turn my vision into reality.

If there’s one lesson I’ve taken away from this journey, it’s that passion without persistence is just a fleeting dream. Success isn’t always about talent or connections; sometimes, it’s about showing up day after day, even when the odds feel stacked against you.

This path hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has been worth it. And if I could go back and do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing.

When it comes to health and wellness, how is the work you are doing helping to make a bigger impact in the world?

In 2024, I started the Vanessa Marc Dream Foundation, is a foundation perpetually committed to entrepreneurship and empowerment that will advance equity and justice for all. We strive to make these advancements by funding programs for entrepreneurship and financial literacy for underprivileged children and adolescents alike, sowing the seeds of love and passion that will enrich the leaders of our future with tools for success.

Can you share your top five (5) “lifestyle tweaks” that you believe will help support people’s journey towards better wellbeing? Please give an example or story for each

Prioritize Consistent Sleep Patterns

  • Tweak: Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, aiming for 7–9 hours of quality sleep.
  • Example: Gidi, a busy marketing executive, used to stay up late scrolling through her phone, feeling exhausted every morning. After committing to a regular sleep schedule and setting a bedtime alarm, she noticed improved focus, fewer mood swings, and better productivity at work.
  • Why It Works: Consistent sleep regulates your body’s internal clock, improving cognitive function, mood, and overall health.

Practice Mindful Eating

  • Tweak: Slow down during meals, focus on your food, and listen to your body’s hunger and fullness cues.
  • Example: Gary, who used to eat lunch at his desk while working, switched to mindful eating by taking 20 minutes away from screens to enjoy his meals. He found himself feeling more satisfied with smaller portions and reduced afternoon energy crashes.
  • Why It Works: Mindful eating helps prevent overeating, improves digestion, and fosters a healthier relationship with food.

Daily Movements Over Intense workouts

  • Tweak: Incorporate at least 30 minutes of movement daily, even if it’s just a brisk walk or stretching.
  • Example: Matt, a software developer, struggled to maintain an intense workout routine. Instead, he began taking two 15-minute walking breaks each day. Over time, he felt less back pain, improved energy levels, and better mental clarity.
  • Why It Works: Daily movement reduces the risk of chronic diseases, boosts mood, and increases energy levels without the pressure of structured

Digital Detox Periods

  • Tweak: Dedicate at least 30 minutes a day to being completely offline — no social media, emails, or screens.
  • Example: Sabrina, a college student, used to scroll endlessly before bed. After implementing a “no screens an hour before sleep” rule, she started reading books instead and found himself sleeping better and feeling more relaxed.
  • Why It Works: Reducing screen time lowers stress, improves focus, and enhances overall mental well-being.

Cultivate Gratitude Daily

  • Tweak: Write down three things you’re grateful for every night before bed.
  • Example: Maria, a nurse, started keeping a gratitude journal. At the end of stressful days, she wrote down small wins — a kind patient, a smooth shift, or a good cup of coffee. Over time, her perspective shifted, and she felt more resilient and content.
  • Why It Works: Practicing gratitude shifts focus from what’s lacking to what’s abundant, reducing stress and increasing happiness

If you could start a movement that would bring the most wellness to the most amount of people, what would that be?

If I could start a movement, it would be called “Wellness Without Barriers” — a global initiative aimed at making wellness accessible, affordable, and inclusive for everyone, regardless of their background, income, or lifestyle.

The Core Idea: Wellness shouldn’t be a luxury or a trend reserved for those with disposable income or ample free time. True wellness — physical, mental, and emotional health — should be a right, not a privilege.

“5 Things I Wish Someone Told Me Before I Started” and Why?

Success Takes Time, and That’s Okay

When I started, I thought success would come quickly if I worked hard enough. But building a reputable brand takes time, patience, and consistency. Every small win matters, and every setback is a lesson.

You Can’t Do It All Alone

In the beginning, I tried to handle everything myself — from treatments to scheduling to managing finances. I wish someone had told me earlier that building a strong team is essential. Delegating responsibilities allows you to focus on what you do best.

Boundaries Are Key to Avoid Burnout

I used to say yes to every opportunity, every client, and every late-night request. Over time, I realized that setting boundaries isn’t selfish; it’s necessary for maintaining your health, creativity, and passion for your work.

Invest in Your Brand and Yourself Early On

Whether it’s professional development, branding, or high-quality products, investing in your business and your personal growth from the start sets the foundation for long-term success.

Not Everyone Will Support Your Vision — and That’s Okay

In the beginning, I encountered people who didn’t believe in my goals or questioned my ability to succeed. I learned that not everyone will understand your journey, but that shouldn’t stop you from pursuing your dreams.

Sustainability, veganism, mental health, and environmental changes are big topics at the moment. Which one of these causes is dearest to you, and why?

Mental Health, Veganism, and Environmental changes all three causes are incredibly important and interconnected, mental health is the one closest to my heart. As a business owner, esthetician, and someone who works closely with clients in deeply personal spaces, I’ve seen firsthand how mental health impacts every aspect of our lives — from how we care for ourselves to how we interact with the world around us.

In my industry, people often seek skincare treatments not just for physical results, but also as a form of self-care and emotional healing. I’ve had clients open up about their struggles, and I’ve realized that creating a safe, calming environment goes far beyond just skin deep — it’s about nurturing the soul as well.

Personally, as an entrepreneur, I’ve faced my own moments of stress, self-doubt, and burnout, and I know how vital it is to prioritize mental well-being. I believe conversations around mental health need to be normalized and prioritized in every space — at home, in workplaces, and within our communities.

At the end of the day, a healthy mind creates space for a healthy body, strong relationships, and the energy to care for causes like environmental change and animal welfare. It all starts from within.
